While the cat's away, the mice will play!

While Jason was off backpacking last weekend I played!! (Well not the whole time...but A LOT, hehe!)

I watched chick flicks- sometimes 2 per day!

Sunday afternoon was GORGEOUS outside- I painted until dark!
One of Jef & Laurie's old windows....

...turned into a dry erase board! Once I got the window frame pulled apart, this only took me 10 minutes to create!

My vintage tea cart find from antiquing with Brenda- "before"

the "after"- I painted it a different shade of green, and then did a brown glaze

...I got carried away with the brown glaze!

Just trying this cutting board out for a top. I think I'm going to end up doing something like this.

This used to be leaf green, but it needed to change colors to sit on my now leaf green tea cart

If my parents get around to changing one of their guest rooms into their workout room, we're going to get the bedding! (...which is pretty much still brand new. I think that rooms been slept in less than 10 times since I moved out 3+ years ago) I'm excited about the prospect of some new colors in our bedroom...a hint of blue being one of them. Just for the fun of it I spray painted this branch blue. It may or may not get used, but it was still fun to do!

One of Jason's work projects recently was to close off the loft 1/2 wall at my parent's lake house. Four trips to the lake later, we got it done! We initially hoped for a 2 day/1 night trip to accomplish this task...but lots of times things don't go according to plan when it comes to remodeling!

(I have a love hate relationship with the iPhone camera- on the one we take lots more pictures of stuff, but on the other hand the quality isn't that yet again, never mind my camera phone photos!)

It's officially been 4 weeks now since I've become a SAHW (stay-at-home-wife) again!

And let me tell you: It's been CRAZY around here!

I've had like 6 friend's who've called to congratulate me or schedule lots of fun dates now that I'm "free"! I have so many wonderful friends! I've gotten to help with the quilts for the Royal Family Kids' Camp foster kids, work out with my friend Nancy, go antiquing with my friend Brenda, get my toe nails done with my sister, have bi-weekly lunch dates with my friend Elise, watch movies with my friend Jessica, go bike riding to dinner on Brookside with Jason and another couple friends, get hot chocolate at Cosmo's with Jason and Jef & Laurie, have new friends Tim & Kara over for famous tacos, and have Matthew & Jessica over to play cards!

Whew. It's been glorious. It's been great to see our lives return to "our normal" :)

AND in addition to spending so much time with friends, I've gotten to spend a tremendous amount of time accompanying Jason on work related things! Being a SAHW again has been WONDERFUL for our marriage!

Rball Night

I liked this post so much from my friend, Jessica, that I had to share it with you! (Jason plays rball with Matthew every Tuesday night)

"I don't remember when this night started, but for at least the last two years, Matthew has played racquetball every Tuesday night (unless work interfered) with his dad and several friends. This night has been great for both of us because it gives me a night to hang out with a girl friend or just have an evening to myself, and it gives him some guaranteed "guy time". If your husband doesn't have a built-in guy night, I highly recommend it. It will be good for both of you. :)

Here is a fun video that was taken more than a year ago that Matthew posted on YouTube. Enjoy!

Carney Family Recipes

I've not made near as many cookbooks this year as last year (which was THE year of weddings for us), but I've made a couple so far. Sadly, I only remembered to take photos of this one and not the other.

It's always a hit at wedding showers! It brings me great joy to share something with new brides that is so near and dear to me- cooking! Almost all of them say, "Great! I don't really know how to cook, this will be so helpful!" And it will be, I was in the same boat 3 1/2 years ago!

Vanilla Revisited

Remember when I started my first batch of homemade vanilla extract?
It's finished, and boy is it delicious!!

Chicken Neighbors!!

Last Monday I saw my next door neighbors sitting out on their front porch. I hollered over to them and asked if they were enjoying their spring break? The mom, Elizabeth, called back to me saying they were going to build a chicken coop!

A CHICKEN COOP!? DOES THAT MEAN YOU HAVE CHICKENS!? (Can you sense my excitement!?)

So they took me to their in-law suite in the back yard and showed off their baby chickens! They are going to be laying hens!! I told her we will be willing customers once they start laying eggs!

I peered over the fence on Friday afternoon to see Dan working on the chicken coop and the chickens were "happily pecking the ground and eating grubs" according to Elizabeth. (They won't be 100% "free range" chickens because they have to stay safe when the Martin's are not home, but still pretty good in my book!)

It's official: I've become a blog-a-holic.

I just counted 80 blogs in my Google Reader account. Wow. 80. That's A LOT. (Thankfully, by using Google Reader, reading blogs is not some HUGE time consuming thing I do. It's just like skimming through my email inbox! I find great joy in introducing friends to Google Reader too, so check it out!)

I love to see/learn from people's everyday lives. There's a reason my header says "Blessed are those who learn to enjoy what is good in their everyday" (quote from For the Family's Sake)

So, let me share just a glimpse of some of the blogs I read. I probably won't add them all here, but I'll highlight them by category:

People I know in real life (IRL)!
Brenda (one of my creative pals)
Kara B. (my college roommate)
Kara P.(met via Jessica)
Jessica (worked together at Kanakuk, summer 2004)
Dawn (met via my MIL)
Sarah (wife of cousin #3)
Danielle (I started as her babysitter, now friend!)
Teddi (my wedding photog from Dallas)
Donna (owner of the puppies staying with us)
Laurie (I've known her since 4th grade!)
Tracy (my parent's neighbor)

People I hope to meet in real life!

People who like to DO and CREATE!

Puppy Sitting

The family who lost their little girl, Lexi, is currently on a 2 week 're-grouping' trip/ their little puppy dogs are visiting us!

Scruffey is 5
(No, I don't keep him gated up, he's a good pup- this was right after they came the other day.)

Finnigan is showing his 'only child' tendencies.
He's nice to Scruffey, but he certainly has to be right in front of us so that our attention is on him!

Mocha is the 'baby'- he's still a brand new puppy...
...not house trained all the way, so he has to stay in the kitchen!
Our next door neighbor is smitten with him!

Saturday Finds

Two fun discoveries from Saturday:

I had the mango- it was fabulous :)

I passed by this store, and just had to stop in- super cute stuff!
Oilcoth- I think I'll have to buy a yard and make something myself with it! Such pretty prints!

Another Country Drive

We left Grand Lake at 12:42pm on Thursday.
We arrived to our shop in Broken Arrow around 5:15pm
It's normally about an hour and fifteen minutes of a drive.....

Jason, I love you and your crazy meandering drives!

(we like to think we're really good at timer pictures)

I think this is someone's pet emu
I'm just guessing
I don't really know what an emu is...
...but it sounded impressive to Jason when that's what I told him it was
turns out I'm right (google image search it!)

Claremore Lake- yet another timer photo :)
(Camera hung on a branch, I know surprise, the angle on this one isn't on purpose!)

Allie & Noah

"Noah, what are you doing?"

"Just come on!"

"You're going to get run over"

"By all the cars!?"

Sunday Drive

Jason, aka Map Man, doesn't like to take the same road twice...and we've been to my parent's lake house twice already this week! (working on a small remodel)

Sunday, we dove through "Success, Oklahoma" only to be sorely disappointed that there was not even a sign, let alone a town, to mark our travels.

Lake Oologah

Winganon, OK...probably where a bunch of Trekkies live.

Chelsea, OK - very cool old building!

Happenings at The Shop

The Shop
Jason's Very Capable Man Cave

1000 sq. ft. of tools
sawdust on everything most of the time
creativity flows
constant learning
friendships built while building things

the latest addition: The CNC Router
learning it's ins and outs
submersing himself in SolidWorks and MasterCam
the "first cut"- several weeks ago now

working on a pizza pie table like this:

I stopped by the shop mid day today- Jason was learning how to bend wood for part of the table

I love my husband- he does so many cool things!

P.S. Please ignore the fact that I took all these pictures on my phone. Thanks ;)
