Gingerbread House Competition

Friday afternoon we received a last minute invite to a gingerbread house competition by our friend, Brenda, whose daughter Bella was the crazy cute kid we stayed with back in September. (Bella was one of the judges and she said I was going to win when I walked in the door with my 'pretzel tree' in hand!)

Rules were:
Everyone was given the same basic house to work with, but we could alter in in any way.
Everything had to be edible except we could use hot glue.
All had to be done within 2 hours.

We used:
Twizzler bites cut in half for the shingles
Rice Krispies cut into "bricks"
Black Twizzlers for the trim
Pretzels for the shutters, door and tree
Royal Icing for the snow
Skittles for the doorknob, greenery and bird

1st place- a classic gingerbread style

2nd place- went the route of altering their structure into a barn

We had very little time to prepare and make our game plan, so we were surprised to get 3rd place out of 8 couples~ we ran out of time and didn't even get to finish our colonial cottage.

We took it home and of course had to finish it- adding black licorice to the eaves and windows plus a red bird for my tree.
