09 Road Trip: Part 1 of 3

Part 1
Tuesday & Wednesday, May 26th & 27th.
We drove to Colorado Springs to see Jason's good friend, Daniel, graduate from the Air Force Academy. We stayed with family of his fiance, Bonnie, while in CO. (The photos in this post are all from the first part of our trip)

Part 2
Thursday- Sunday, May 28th- May 31st
After that we meandered through southern Colorado and went camping & hiking in the San Isabel National Forest. After that we meandered through New Mexico and spent one night in Albuquerque. Then we drove over to Amarillo, TX and attended a cousin's wedding and stayed with my Aunt and Uncle before coming back home to Tulsa. We were home in Tulsa for 4 days (and worked like crazy for those 4 days!) before we left town again to attend Daniel & Bonnie's wedding in Arkansas. (Photos to come!)

Part 3
Friday & Saturday, June 5th & 6th
We spent two very full day's in Jason's hometown of Gravette, AR (about 2 hours from Tulsa) where Daniel & Bonnie got married. (Photos to come!)

We spent Memorial Day with our friends, Matthew & Jessica washing and vacuuming all 4 of our cars. Eva started out the trip so clean! She also got about 2,000 miles put on her while we were gone. Now she is due for another wash, vacuum and oil change. Maybe tomorrow I can get that accomplished.

We got up about 3am Tuesday the 26th to finish getting ready and were on the road to Colorado Springs at 5:04 am. This photo is for any '24' watchers out there!

Once we arrived in Colorado Springs we met up with everyone for dinner at On the Border. This is everyone who came to see Daniel graduate. Daniel is in there somewhere!

Daniel & his then fiance, Bonnie (they got married 11 days after this- that's in Part 3 of the trip)
After dinner, we all went and got dressed up for Daniel's commissioning- his squadron's was at 10pm that night!

Daniel's dad, Jim, is also in the Air Force, so he did Daniel's commissioning.

Daniel & Bonnie

With newly commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, Daniel H.
It was about 1am at point in the day- Jason and I had been awake for almost 24 hours, we slept great that night!

Daniel with his parents, Jim & Tammy

The next morning we had to be at the AFA football stadium at 9am for graduation. It had been cold every day leading up to graduation day, so we were told to dress warm (you can see how well Jason listened!) but it turned out to be gorgeous weather and we all got terribly sunburned! I have never experienced this before, but my eye balls got sunburned. They were just miserable the next day!

Kyle & Jennifer (Bonnie's brother & his wife, who we stayed with) with Jason & I. We guessed there were probably 10,000 people in attendance at the graduation!

The cadets walked in SO uniformly! It was impressive.
Joe Biden gave the commencement address. I was not impressed by him. b o r i n g

Daniel was in Squadron 18...out of 40! (1046 graduates total) we cheered really loud when his name was called and then looked at each other and said, now there are 22 more squadrons after his! Thankfully the graduation really was like being at a football game- people talked, got up for concessions and cheered every once and a while. We did not leave the stadium until 2pm!

Just as the cadets were told they were "Now officially graduated" and they all threw their caps in the air, the Thunderbirds flew in from right behind our heads and they performed an air show.

Class of '09

We were all starving by the time graduation was over, so we went to Bonnie's parent's house for pizza. We played a game new to Jason & I called "Holey Board" - you try to throw large washers into the holes on the opposite board. (me pictured with Jennifer)

After lunch we went over to Bonnie's apartment to pack and clean. All her belongings and Daniel's dorm stuff were loaded into a trailer that Jim & Tammy (Daniel's parents) drove back to AR.

We scrubbed, dusted and vacuumed every nook and cranny so she will hopefully get all of her deposit back!

Daniel & Jason after the trailer was all loaded up.

Wednesday morning after all the hustle and bustle of our visit we stopped to take a picture with Bonnie's niece (Kyle & Jennifer's little girl) before heading out for our next adventure.

Stay tuned for parts 2 & 3!!
